Tenerife, Canary Islands
There are not many places in the world where you can lie on the beach in the shadow of a volcano – but in Tenerife you can. The Canary Islands’ largest archipelago has been a huge tourist favourite for decades welcoming million of visitors every year, and it’s easy to see why.
Tenerife holidays encompass everything you could want from a European retreat. Sprawling beaches, a landscape of tropical forests and dramatic sights and beautiful beaches as far as the eye can see. No matter whether you’re looking to spend a couple of weeks soaking up the sun on all inclusive holidays or wanting to get adventurous and explore the countryside, Tenerife can offer it all and more.
Sun, sea, sand and Carnival!
Tenerife is bathed in sunshine throughout the year meaning holidays in January will be just as pleasant as those in the summer. This colourful archipelago caters for everyone from families looking for a relaxing beach break, couples wanting a quiet, secluded retreat to thrillseekers wanting to tackle the waves of the Atlantic.
Looming large over Tenerife is the magnificent Mount Teide National Park which includes the highest peak in Spain. Visitors can reach the summit via cable car and while it gets pretty chilly at the top, the views of the neighbouring islands Gran Canaria, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro are truly spectacular.
Mount Teide is one of Tenerife’s main attractions, but just as many flock to the island for the beaches. The south-western resorts of Los Cristianos, Playa de las Americas and Costa Adeje are the holiday hub of Tenerife. While popular destinations for holidaymakers, they have retained their Canarian charm and are complimented by a stunning coastline. In the evenings, there is a wealth of bars and restaurants to choose from.
Visit Tenerife in February or March and you’ll find the capital of Santa Cruz in full-on party mode as the Carnival comes to town. Move over Rio as these huge celebrations see the streets of the city splashed with colour as parades and costumes become the norm for a couple of days. It is something that has to be seen to be believed.
Why go to Tenerife?
Year-round sunshine and miles of unspoilt beaches, what could be better? Tenerife is the perfect place for relaxation in friendly resorts and quaint villages. Families will feel right at home in the likes of Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos being able to choose from a host of hotels with everything from waterparks to spas.
If you’re looking for bit of tranquillity in a sunkissed paradise then the more remote locations of Callao Salvaje will be right up your street. Relax on unique beaches such as Playa Jardin, a stretch of black sand shoreline with the backdrop of a botanical garden. These sights alone are enough to have you packing your bags and booking your next stay in this jewel of the Canary Islands.
Flight times are just over 4 hours making it the perfect balance between a short and long haul escape and a stay in Tenerife will have you returning more refreshed than ever.
