Son Bou Overview
Quiet holidays: This little holiday resort in Menorca is the ideal place if you just want to relax during your holidays. There’s a sandy white beach here, as well as some great restaurants and a few bars – nothing too lively, just a lovely place to chill out.
Beautiful holidays: The large expanse of soft white sand and gorgeous blue sea makes Son Bou the place for some of the best beach holidays on the island. The rocky cliff face curving along the edge of the coast also acts as a great wind breaker for the strong breezes often associated with Menorca holidays.
Attractions in Son Bou
Basillica de Son Bou: Although now reduced to rubble due to a fire in the 18th century, this old Christian church is still a worthwhile site to visit. It’s completely free, so it makes for a cheap trip if you’re getting bored of the beach. Plus it’s interesting to see a settlement that dates all the way back to the 4th century.
Torre d’en Galmes: This Neolithic site has been in existence since 1400 BC – so it’s pretty old then! Situated on a hill, the ancient town has evidence of houses, watchtowers and a surprisingly sophisticated water system.
Activities in Son Bou
Giant Maze: Named Laberintino in Spanish, this huge maze is an exciting way to spend an afternoon for youngsters if you’re on family holidays here. They’ll enjoy trying to navigate their way to the finish!
Watersports: There are many high-octane watery pursuits to have a splash around in the sea during holidays in Menorca. The lively waves of Son Bou make the doughnuts an exciting, bouncy experience!
Beaches in Son Bou
Son Bou: One of the best beaches you’ll see on Menorca holidays. The soft white sand makes walking a pleasure, although the water is a little rougher than some other resorts. The coast is interspersed with a wetland that’s home to many exotic birds and animals. You may also be surprised to know that the most western end of the beach is favoured by nudists!
Cala en Porter: Just a little further along the coast on you holidays in Son Bou you’ll find Cala en Porter. The sand here isn’t quite so nice, although you are treated to some dramatic rocky cliffs on either side of the beach.
Restaurants in Son Bou
Le Gondolier: This traditional Italian restaurant serves up many classics like lasagne and fresh stone-baked pizza. It’s a great place to go if you fancy a change from the Spanish or British cuisine that’s mainly found on Menorca holidays.
Le Jardin: An excellent eating experience awaits you here. The French certainly know how to cook food, and the world-famous dishes like Salad Nicoise and Beef de la Borderlaise taste as fantastic as they sound. Even if you’re on all inclusive holidays in Son Bou, this restaurant is still worth your while.
Las Dunas: When you’re on Menorca holidays, you really must try a few Spanish dishes. Luckily, you’ll find plenty to choose from in this restaurant. The Paella here is a fragrant and spicy mix of seafood and colourful rice. Plus don’t forget to order a bit of Mayonnaise with whatever you’re having – it was originally created in the capital Mahon back in the Middle Ages, so it’s essential you have some when you’re on holidays in Menorca.
Shopping in Son Bou
Commercial centre: Although Son Bou holidays are pretty quiet and understated, the centre (named Centro Commercial) has a selection of tourist shops and a few fashionable boutiques for some retail therapy whilst on your holidays!
