Skiathos Town Overview

The beaches on Skiathos holidays benefit from amazingly clear waters and very fine golden sand, and Koukounaries Beach is even described as one of the best beaches in the Mediterranean.

Scenic holidays: Skiathos is an island of great beauty, and Skiathos Town is the perfect base to explore the attractiveness of Skiathos. Whether you’re visiting medieval ruins overlooking dramatic mountaintops or wandering long walking trails into pine-strewn forests, you’ll certain to see lots of picture perfect scenery.

Attractions on Skiathos Town holidays

Kastro: This old medieval village makes a fascinating visit during your holidays in Skiathos Town. Kastro stood from the 12th century right up until 1830, and perhaps the most interesting thing about the town is its location. It’s perched high on a hill, with drastic rock faces encircling all sides. This made the town extremely safe from invasion, and it’s actually only connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of land. Today, many of the houses are in semi-ruin, but one church still remains from this bygone era.

Papadiamantis House Museum of Skiathos: The famous Greek writer Alexandros Papadiamantis was born in Skiathos, and he wrote over 100 novels largely focused on the island. As a tribute to his legacy, his house has been transformed into an interesting little museum with all sorts of information and exhibits about his way of life.

Activities on Skiathos Town holidays

The Walks of Skiathos Island: Vasilis Koralis is the author of ‘The Walks of Skiathos Island’ an informative and absorbing guide about the best trails and walks you can enjoy on your Skiathos Town holidays. Even better, you can actually meet the man himself (at the information centre twice a week) to ask all about the best places to visit.

Skiathos Diving Centre: With incredibly clear water and abundant marine life, Skiathos is a wonderful place for diving on your holidays. Luckily, there’s a well-equipped Diving Centre in Skiathos Town with facilities for beginners and experts alike.

Beaches on Skiathos Town holidays

Megali Ammos Beach: Around 10 minutes outside of Skiathos Town, this pleasant 2km long beach is your best bet for sunbathing whilst having holidays in Skiathos. There’s a refreshing breeze across the beach which ensures that you’re kept cool here even during hot summer days.

Vassilia Beach: Following on from Megali Ammos, Vassilia Beach enjoys the same cooling breeze and wonderful green scenery as its connecting beach. The golden sand lined with densely packed verdant foliage makes Vassilia just as attractive a place to sunbathe.

Koukounaries Beach: Around 10km away from Skiathos Town, but it’s well worth travelling the distance. Koukounaries Beach is the most popular stretch of coastline on the island, and with good reason. The back of the beach is bordered by densely packed pine and fig trees, and is a favoured nesting ground for migrating birds. The fine golden sand gently curves around the bay, whilst the water is exceptionally clear.
