The famous island of Sicily is a must visit holiday destination for everyone, no matter who you are! You will find numerous resorts spread around the island, with each offering something unique for you to discover.
If you’re looking for places to visit on the eastern coastline, there are some lovely ones to choose from including the coastal town of Taormina, which is home to the small island Isola Bella. The island is connected to the coast via a small beach known as Isola Bella beach, meaning you can explore it without having to set foot in the water. The beach consists of small stones and makes the ideal stopping off point if you want to relax for a while under the Sicilian sun.
Nearby you will find one of the most significant ancient sites on the island, the Ancient Theatre of Taormina. It is remarkably preserved considering it’s age and consists of a brick construction, making it seem that it was built during the Roman period but was based on Greek design. It is at an elevated location allowing you to enjoy views of both sea and land.
Along the coast to the south of Taormina is the large city of Syracuse, which boasts an impressive amount of historic sites in a surprisingly modern environment. Due to the number of historic sites here, the city is known as the historic centre of Sicily, so you can look forward to discovering ancient attractions including the Greek Theatre, the Roman Amphitheatre and the Paradise Quarries.
If you’re looking for places to visit on the northwestern side, San Vito Lo Capo makes a good choice, as although it’s a relatively small village, it’s becoming increasingly popular due to the scenic landscape and beautiful beach that can be found here. It’s an ideal place to relax and offers a number of restaurants where you can experience the freshly prepared local cuisine.
If you want to visit the infamous Mount Etna, no problem, as it’s relatively easy to get to and can beseen from numerous vantage points across the island. There are guided tours available, which will take you to the mountain where you will discover a little about its history.
