Malgrat de Mar, Costa Brava

Malgrat de Mar cheap holidays

Malgrat de Mar Overview

Peaceful village: Malgrat de Mar offers quieter 2019 holidays to the Costa Brava, and the pretty orange roof-topped houses of the village make for a relaxing place to stay. However, there’s still a good selection of bars and restaurants in Malgrat de Mar to enjoy a pleasant evening out too.

Green spaces: Although a fairly small holiday resort, Malgrat de Mar has three large parks that offer shady respite from the midday sun. There’s a huge variety of trees and plant life inside the parks making them the ideal choice for a nice walk after lunch.

Three beaches: Costa Brava holidays are known for having fantastic beaches, and holidays to Malgrat de Mar 2019 are no exception. The three beaches in Malgrat de Mar are all excellent for different reasons, with its Central Beach having Blue Flag status for its cleanliness since 1997.

Attractions in Malgrat de Mar

Sant Nicolau de Malgrat: Built in the 16th century, this Baroque church has been designed with real elegance, with a sloping bell-shaped roof and pale coloured brickwork. The path which leads to the entrance is lined with trees and Victorian-style streetlamps. The church is also known as ‘The Cathedral of the Coast’ because it is one of the largest you’ll see on Costa Brava holidays.

El Castell: Although ‘El Castell’ literally translates as the castle, this structure is really more of a watchtower. Placed in a strategic location, the tower is perched high on a beautiful green space in the centre of Malgrat de Mar. It was initially used to keep a look out for pirates in the 17th century, but now it’s simply an attraction for people on their holidays wishing to appreciate the splendid views.

Activities in Malgrat de Mar

Parc Francesc Macia: Young children will absolutely love Parc Francesc Maria, making it the ideal trip for family holidays to Malgrat de Mar. This lovely park is filled with colourful structures like giant flowers and toadstools, plus plenty of fun activities too like sandpits, slides and seesaws. Your little one could easily spend a whole day in here without getting bored!

Pla de Pineda: Based right in the centre of Malgrat de Mar, this park is a pleasant spot of green amongst a bustling urban town. The densely packed sweet-smelling pines make this a lovely place to relax and take a break from the beach on holidays here.

Beaches in Malgrat de Mar

La Playa del Astillero: This golden sandy beach is incredibly popular during the summer holidays as it’s the closest to the main hotels in Malgrat de Mar. The beach is also very well facilitated with showers, toilets and a whole host of bars and restaurants. Over the summer holidays season, you’ll also find there’s plenty of entertainment and activities all day with children’s clubs and illumination shows.

Malgrat Central Beach: As the name suggests, this beach lies in the middle of the coastline which follows along Malgrat de Mar. It’s an incredibly flat expanse of golden sand, uncovered by trees or mountains, so your view of the sea and sky stretches for miles and miles. The beach has also been awarded Blue Flag status every year since 1997 for its cleanliness and safety.

Tordera Beach: Near to the Malgrat de Mar holiday camping site, you’ll discover this beach at the end of the Tordera River. It’s not as well known as the other two beaches in the resort, and that also means it has the advantage of being the least busy, even during the summer holidays!

Restaurants in Malgrat de Mar

La Bota Bodega: Here’s a rather unique concept – a restaurant that is a chicken specialist! They serve some tasty accompaniments to go with your chicken, such as Serrano Ham and Spanish cheese, but clearly the star of the show is the main poultry dish. You can actually order a whole chicken for yourself if you’re feeling extra hungry!

Milan Cafeteria: A lovely place to stop off for an espresso and a slice of freshly baked cake on your holidays to Malgrat de Mar, Milan Cafeteria should be top of your list if you’re looking for a delicious lunch. They also serve a large selection of pizzas and inventively flavoured ice creams.

Bei Pepe: An excellent restaurant serving authentic Italian cuisine such as Beef Carpaccio and Salmon in Garlic Sauce. Gazpacho, a cold tomato soup originating from Spain, is also served here and is a great choice for a refreshing starter on a hot sunny day.

Nightlife in Malgrat de Mar

British bars: Many of the bars in Malgrat de Mar have been built around British holidays, as the resort has seen an explosion of interest over the past ten years. Legends Bar is highly recommended - it has a warm, friendly atmosphere and also serves hearty British food. Robin Hood, Rover’s Return and The Black Bull are also the ideal places to go if you’re looking for a ‘home-from-home’ drinking experience on your holidays to Malgrat de Mar.
