Introduction
Shrouded in mythology, steeped in history and blessed with spectacular beaches – Cyprus holidays 2022 are something else. While it may be a haven for sunseekers there is much more to this beloved destination than meets the eye.
It is an island of such diversity. In the east you have the infamous party town of Ayia Napa with its legendary nightlife; to the west you have the historical city of Paphos which is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site; while on the southern coast, Larnaca is one of the best diving spots in Europe. Cyprus holidays can appeal to all tastes whether you are travelling with the family, as a couple or in a large group.
Mythology and magnificence
Cyprus is not your conventional holiday destination. The country has a fascinating past shaped by Greek mythology and there are numerous reminders of this history dotted across the island. The Rock of Aphrodite, off the coast of Paphos, is arguably Cyprus’ most intriguing landmark. The rock formation is said to be the birthplace of the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite, and legend has it that anyone who swims around the rock three times will find true love.
Not far from the Rock of Aphrodite is the ancient city of Kourion another reminder of Cyprus’ amazing past. The city dates back to the 2nd century BC back when Cyprus was controlled by the Romans. Widely regarded as one of the most impressive archaeological sites in Europe, the city has retained the theatre, villas, a bath house and a number of religious buildings. Don’t forget to visit the Tomb of the Kings close to Paphos, another relic of the Hellenistic and early Roman period.
Cyprus can provide that lazy beach holiday you’ve been looking for. The country boasts some simply beautiful stretches of coastline perfect whether you’re holidaying as a family, as a couple or with friends. Coastal towns such as Protaras and Larnaca offer pristine white sand beaches with views of the deep blue Mediterranean Sea stretching on for miles.
Larnaca is another hugely interesting destination being home to historical sites such as the mosque of Hala Sultan Tekke and the Agios Lazaros Church. However, the main reason holidaymakers visit is to experience some of the best diving sites in the world. It is a hotspot for novices and professionals alike thanks to the Wreck of the Zenobia, a ro-ro ferry which sank in 1980, one of the top ten wreck diving sites in the world. It can be the perfect place to learn a new skill or try it out again.

The island can be your historical adventure, the place where you tried diving for the first time, your romantic getaway or the party you never wanted to end.
