Cavelossim Overview

Peaceful holidays: Cavelossim holidays are based in the slightly quieter south of Goa. They’re certainly less touristic than Calangute holidays, but there’s still plenty to see and do within the nearby area.

Beach holidays: Cavelossim holidays boast a glorious golden beach. It’s a wide long stretch with plenty of soft sand to go around for everybody! There are a number of beaches nearby too, including Varcar, Mobor and Betul.

Attractions in Cavelossim

Holy Spirit Church: This grand church has a very similar style to the more famous Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception church near Calangute. But then that’s unsurprising really, as it was also created during the time of the Portuguese occupation. Travel around 15km from Cavelossim to the local city of Margao to see the elaborate beaming white facade and charmingly pretty interior. It’s a very beautiful sight to see on Cavelossim holidays.

Municipal Building: Built by the Portuguese in 1770, this vibrantly coloured building makes for a pleasant sight during your visits into the city of Margao. Its bright red and yellow colours make for fantastic photo opportunities on your Cavelossim holidays too!

Activities in Cavelossim

Goa Citra: Based in Benaulim, around 10km north of Cavelossim holidays, this fascinating museum has a focus on the old agriculture methods used in Goa. There are over 4000 artefacts on display of old farming tools and lots of curiosities like pottery, paintings and carvings. It’s a great way to learn more about the history of the Goan people during your Cavelossim holidays.

Mollem National Park: It’s well worth travelling the 40km distance from Cavelossim to explore this awe-inspiring national park. Covering 240 square kilometres, this lush green wildlife sanctuary is overflowing with dense forest, winding rivers and beautiful waterfalls. In fact, one of the most famous natural attractions on Cavelossim holidays, the Dudhsagar Falls, is located within the park. This multi-tiered waterfall is the highest in Goa, demanding a 10km trek through the forest to reach the summit. But if you do, you’ll be rewarded with staggering views of the cascading water and the incredible skyline of Goa. Certainly a fantastic spot to get some great panoramic photos on your Cavelossim holidays. Additionally, being a wildlife sanctuary, Mollem National Park is absolutely teeming with all kinds of exotic animals including porcupines, tigers, leopards, vipers, cobras and flying squirrels!

Anshi National Park: Also around 40km from Cavelossim, this huge national park covers a staggering 2200 square kilometres. Declared a wildlife sanctuary since 1956, the park forms part of the North Western Ghats rain forests and has an incredibly diverse range of animals and plants. You may even be lucky enough to spot elephants, panthers, and vipers!

Beaches in Cavelossim

Cavelossim Beach: This pleasant golden stretch is one of the best beaches in south Goa, thanks to its tranquil atmosphere and charming beach shacks. The coastline is backed by towering palm trees, making sunbathing here during your Cavelossim holidays seem even more exotic! Despite being quieter than Calangute in the north, Cavelossim Beach still has plenty of life to it, with masseuses, market traders and performers all vying for your attention.

Varca Beach: Flat white sands, palm trees and crystal clear waters – this is what sunbathing on Goa holidays is all about! Varca Beach is also far more peaceful than many of the other surrounding beaches, so it’s a great place to relax and unwind while you’re having your holidays in Cavelossim.

Betul Beach: This small beach is in a unique location, facing the Arabian Sea yet also surrounded by the River Sai. This makes for a peaceful setting of light sand and dense forestry where there’s the interesting combination of the freshwater estuary and saltwater sea.

Restaurants in Cavelossim

Octima: This restaurant has a relaxing, tranquil ambience and a large, varied menu. Choose from a fabulous variety of vegetable dishes, including lasagne, okra and chop suey. Handily, Octima also doubles as a bar as it gets later into the evening.

River View Restaurant: The cuisine in this authentic Indian restaurant is absolutely delicious. Highlights include tandoori chicken, tasty buttery naans and fragrant coconut rice. Prices are incredibly cheap here too, meaning it’s ideal if you’re after cheap holidays in Cavelossim.

Jazz Inn: The eclectic menu here caters to all types of tourists on Cavelossim holidays, with everything from traditional curries to pizza, lasagne and fresh fish. There’s also live entertainment on certain nights, so you can enjoy some great music while you dine!

Nightlife in Cavelossim

Beach shacks: Certainly a lot quieter in terms of nightlife than the raucous north around Calangute, the main focus for Cavelossim holidays in the evening comes from the beach shacks dotted along the coastline. Betty’s is one such example and has a great atmosphere, incredibly cheap drinks and tasty snacks like grilled fish caught from the nearby sea just hours before. Also look out for Octima and The Pool Bar, which forms part of one of the region’s all inclusive hotels. You’re still free to drink at the bar, even if you’re not having all inclusive holidays there. Or maybe you’re hankering after the bright lights of the city? Well, just head to the south’s cultural capital, Margao, as it has plenty of Portuguese and authentic Goan bars.

Shopping in Cavelossim

Market shopping: When it comes to market shopping, Cavelossim holidays don’t offer as much variety as Calangute in the north of Goa. However, you’re still certain to come across stalls selling a vibrant range of items along Cavelossim’s beaches. You can pick up all manner of handicrafts, from carvings and paintings to t-shirts and key rings, so every taste is catered for. And if the shopping along the coastline isn’t enough, you could always head inland to the busier towns and cities, such as Mobor and Margao, where there are far more official shops and larger markets.
