Natural wonders: Torrevieja holidays are located around the largest salt lake in Europe, Laguna Salada Torrevieja, so it’s no surprise it’s often called ‘the city of salt’. You can actually take a walk around the national protected park which incorporates two salt lakes and the greenery that surrounds them. The park is home to over 200 species of birds, so it’s likely you’ll see flamingos and more if you visit there during your Torrevieja holidays.

As expected, there are plenty of tapas bars and authentic Spanish restaurants, but you’ll also be surprised by the sheer number of eateries offering international cuisine in classy surroundings.
Activities in Torrevieja
Torrevieja Natural Park: The salt lakes within this natural park have played a big part in the history of Torrevieja. Salt has been harvested from the lakes since the 13th century and still continues today. Due to the high salt content you won’t see many fish in the lakes, but you will see lots of birdlife on your holidays in Torrevieja. The park is a dream for bird-watching holidays as flamingos, stilts and grebe all gather around here.
Natural History Museum: Situated in a grand old building, this small museum has lots of different species on show, with a particular focus on marine life. The dolphin and huge whale skeletons are of real interest, and they’re backed up with information on each animal displayed. This fascinating museum makes a great afternoon visit for family holidays in Torrevieja.
4 golf courses: Torrevieja holidays are great for golfing holidays as there are 4 championship level 18-hole courses all within 10km of Torrevieja holidays. The nearest is Club de Golf Villamartin, which hosted the Mediterranean Open in 1994 and has a good number of challenging holes. Then just nearby to Villamartin you’ve got Las Ramblas and Campoamor. Las Ramblas has become known as the most difficult golf course in the area, largely thanks to its long distance shots over ravines. Campoamor is slightly more forgiving as it has wide fairways and large greens. And finally there’s La Finca, which is a little further away to the north-west of Torrevieja holidays but it’s well worth a visit for the modern water features and mountain views.
Beaches in Torrevieja
Playa del Cura: One of the most conveniently placed of all the beaches on Torrevieja holidays, this golden stretch of sand is within walking distance of the town centre. It’s also well looked after, as it’s cleaned every night and is well facilitated with toilets, showers and a pleasant promenade. There are water sports available too – everything from windsurfing to pedaloes can be enjoyed here.
Playa Los Locos: A 700m-long golden beach that’s also quite close to the centre of Torrevieja holidays. The water around this beach is famed for its calm currents, so you and your family can swim without any worries. There’s a good selection of restaurants just a few minutes’ walk from the end of the fine golden sand.
Playa de los Naufragos: This light-golden beach is near to both the marina and the salt lakes a little further inland. Torrevieja holidays generally enjoy warm sunny weather all year round as the mountains to the north deflect rain and the salt lakes to the east help make the area even drier.
