Tenerife

Tenerife- often referred to as the ‘island of eternal spring,’- is the largest of the Canary Islands and is primarily known for its good weather year round. Since the 1890s people have flocked to Tenerife, not because it offers cheap holidays, not because of the warm climate, but because Tenerife is truly the island that has something for everyone. It is an island of natural contrasts that offers something different every time you go, be it the greenery of the north or the aridness of the south, golden beaches or black. Once you go to Tenerife, you may never holiday anywhere else again! So, if you are looking for cheap holidays or last minute deals, then look no further, because Tenerife is the place to go. Here at Sunmaster we believe that you shouldn’t have to pay the earth to visit one of the most pleasant places on it!

What You Can Do in Tenerife

TenerifeOne of the hallmarks of a good holiday is finding a good beach. Tenerife has good beaches in abundance. The south-east of the island has gorgeous beaches, rife with golden sand, where you can simply lie back in the sun and let the sound of the waves lull you into a pleasant dream. A place where all the family can enjoy a cheap, fun-filled day out. The Teresitas beach on the north of the island is well worth a visit. It has imported Saharan sand, palm trees and well-placed beach bars where you can sit back and indulge in a cocktail or two and soak up the tropical atmosphere of the place. However, if you fancy a change, Tenerife has many black volcanic beaches, the best of which can be found on the east coast. The black beaches have a startling beauty about them and an almost otherworldly quality – imagine, strolling along a beach of soft black sand, a yellow sun shining above and the blue waves tipped with black. It may sound like a scene out of some gothic novel or a science-fiction book, but a visit to one of these black volcanic beaches makes the holiday an unforgettable one.

Aside from the beaches, the foremost attraction of Tenerife has to be Mount Teide which is the highest mountain in Spain, standing a massive 3718metres above sea-level. Tiede is a dormant volcano which unbelievably, stands in the crater of an even larger and now extinct volcano. Surrounding all this is the Las Cañadas National Park, a place of staggering natural beauty where the breathtaking view of a forest of pine trees gently melts into the volcanic landscape, transforming thoughts of ‘ooh’ into thoughts of awe. Going to Tenerife and not visiting Las Cañadas is like going to Egypt and missing out on the pyramids – it’s that spectacular!

Loro Parque in Puerto De La Cruz is a relatively cheap place to have the time of your life. With over 300 species of parrots, it also holds gorillas, tigers, tortoises, alligators, spectacular gardens and much much more. “Planet Penguin” is a relatively new attraction and undoubtedly a show-stopper – 12tons of snow falls each day in a reproduction of the Arctic climate, so you get to watch the penguins frolic in their natural habitat, an experience which definitely stays with you.

Los Gigantes is a town on the west coast of Tenerife, its main attraction being the Los Gigantes cliffs which stand at a height of around 500-800metres. Boat trips are available so tourists can truly grasp the immensity of these cliffs that tower over the horizon.
If natural wonders and zoos aren’t for you, then Tenerife also offers the ever-popular water sports and waterparks, catamaran trips to view the magnificent whales and dolphins, spectacular night-life, rustic tapas bars that offer traditional Spanish food (and of course a glass or two in accompaniment!) and of course, shopping! Lower taxes make this one of the more pleasurable pastimes, where you can pick up last minute presents and fantastic deals. Although the prices are low, stall holders are always willing to barter the morning away and sell their wares cheap!
