Puerto Morelos Holidays

Puerto Morelos Overview

Close to all the action: Located right between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos holidays are a great choice if you want a resort that’s a little quieter but still close enough to enjoy all the amenities of these two larger resorts.

Diving holidays: Puerto Morelos holidays offer some of the best diving holidays in Mexico, mainly because the Great Mayan Reef, the world’s second largest coral reef is just 800m from the shore. On your diving holidays you’ll see a spellbinding array of sea life including turtles, sharks and eels, whilst the area also offers you the unique opportunity to go cenote (cave) diving observing the otherworldly surroundings in crystal clear water.

Activities in Puerto Morelos

Crococun Zoo: This exciting crocodile zoo has now grown into a full scale conservation project in Puerto Morelos. There are lots of exotic animals that children will be especially enthralled to interact with during their holidays here. The specially trained handlers will even bring out pythons, alligators and slightly more sedate mammals like deer and monkeys all for you to touch and view up close.

Diving holidays: There are some fantastic dive sites all within close proximity of Puerto Morelos holidays. The best include Puente and the Gardens – a 20 metre deep dive where you’ll see lots of brightly coloured fish and inquisitive turtles! You can also visit two ship wrecks in the area (ship wrecks are havens for aquatic life) and even tour underwater caves and gaze at the unusual formations of stalactites and stalagmites.

Boca del Puma: Another example of a great eco-park on Mexico holidays, except this one has been made even more exciting with abseiling, rope bridge walking and most extreme of all, racing along a zip line over the rainforest trees.

Beaches in Puerto Morelos

Puerto Morelos Beach: This pleasant sandy white beach has many reasons to entice you to its shores. Principally, that it is very quiet even during the peak summer holidays season. Whilst lazing on the powder soft white beach you’ll also see the leaning lighthouse which was tilted by a powerful earthquake in 1967. It has since become the town’s rather unusual symbol and it’s well worth a photo during your holidays here.

Restaurants in Puerto Morelos

Cantina Habanero: This lively restaurant/bar often has live music in the evenings, so it’s a place to be entertained on your holidays just as much as it is a place to eat. Luckily, the food is just as vibrant and exciting as the quirky decor which almost engulfs the entire venue. Go for Mexican dishes like breaded chicken tacos or even classic Americana food like huge handmade cheese burgers and chips cooked three times for extra crunch.

JJ’s Kitchen: Puerto Morelos is a great place for informal beachside bars serving hearty portions of delicious home-cooked food. In a similar vein to Cantina Habanero but with more of a focus on Mexican cuisine, JJ’s Kitchen offers tasty tacos, enchiladas and burritos all for an extremely cheap price. It’s well worth a visit even if you’re on all inclusive holidays in Puerto Morelos.

La Panza es Primero: The fun decoration of this beachfront restaurant makes meals here really memorable during your holidays. The theme largely focuses on Mexican wrestling, with posters and figures all depicting wrestlers in action. Chicken in rich cheese sauce is a real favourite here, as is the classic tacos and beer combination!

Nightlife in Puerto Morelos

Beachside bars: Puerto Morelos holidays have a number of beachside bars that are great for partying whilst watching the sunset fade into the sea. Bara Bara Bar offers the liveliest experience, where dance music from reggae to house and drum ‘n’ bass are all played by international DJs. Cantina Habanero’s is also a good choice, as it doubles up as both an atmospheric restaurant and a bar with live music.

Shopping in Puerto Morelos

Independent shops: Originality is the key on Puerto Morelos holidays, and this certainly applies to the type of shops available here too. You can pick up unique clay sculptures in Artisolo, books focused on the local region in Alma Libre, and hammocks from stalls in the town centre. Whatever you choose, it’s sure to make a great gift or souvenir for bringing back home from your holidays in Puerto Morelos.
