Resort Guides -> Canary Islands -> Lanzarote
Off the West coast of Africa lies the island of Lanzarote, the fourth largest of the Canary Islands. Like the rest of the Canary Islands, Lanzarote is of volcanic origin, with the last eruptions happening around the 19th Century, leaving the island with the worlds longest volcanic tunnel - the Atlantida Tunnel which is over seven kilometres long. Lanzarote is subject to the year-round great weather of the Canaries, so no matter when you holiday here, the sun will still be shining!
Lanzarote has an enchanting mixture of white, golden and black beaches complimented by the warm Atlantic ocean. By popular opinion, the best beach in Lanzarote is the Papagayo beach in the south. The white sands are offset by aquamarine and sapphire waters and the enclosed cove offers a feeling of privacy which is why this beach is a favourite from nudists. Far from putting you off, once you see the beach, you may want to join them!
Lanzarote has no shortage of activities to keep you entertained on your holiday and the majority of attractions are cheap enough for you to be able to enjoy more than a couple. You could take a visit to the wine museum where the entrance fee includes a free wine tasting session , or visit the various monuments and historical architecture of which Lanzarote has plenty. The cactus garden is a good place to go for people who enjoy horticulture or simply anyone who likes looking at pretty plants! The Timanfaya National Park simply must be visited as nowhere else will you get to see the kind of lunar-like landscape on display here - it’s worth making a big deal over!
For the more energetic, trekking, caving, cycling, golf and climbing are available at most resorts, with the sea close at hand for a cool-off afterwards! If you simply can’t get enough of the water, then Lanzarote has a great deal of cheap water sports to try out such as scuba diving, wind surfing and even dolphin watching! There’s nothing quite like sitting aboard a gently rocking boat as dolphins playfully squeal and splash in the water by your side. Your holiday in Lanzarote is sure to leave you with some special moments and life-long memories! Unique to Lanzarote, your holiday won’t be complete without a visit to Jameos Del Agua! These underground caves have their very own concert hall where the acoustics will leave you breathless and the underground lagoon will fill you with wonder!
If you enjoy eating out, then you will love the many restaurants of Lanzarote. The restaurants here are as diverse as the rest of the island with a little bit of everything on offer - European cuisine, Japanese cuisine, Canarian and Spanish, Mexican, American - you will always find something to suit everyone’s taste in Lanzarote. Some of the top restaurants offer show cooking as entertainment during your dinner - it doesn’t come cheap but it’s definitely worth splashing out on - there’s nothing quite like watching your food fly about before you eat it!
Nightlife in Lanzarote is not as manic as the nightlife in Tenerife but it is far from boring of a night-time! Lanzarote has a lot of local bars dotted around so if you fancy a quieter evening with a few friendly locals then it pays to seek out the smaller bars that tend to lie off the beaten track. For bright lights, loud music and disorderly dancing then head off to Puerto Del Carmen which is Lanzarote’s main scene for nights out. Most hotels also offer entertainment for the night time so if you’re in the mood for Spanish dancers, bingo and boisterous tour reps, then just head to the loudest hotel you can find!
Hotels in Lanzarote tend to be of the more traditional-looking variety rather than the high-rise hotels found elsewhere. You can find cheap accommodation in most of the resorts and low-season deals are worth looking into as you can grab a great bargain! One of the most luxurious hotels in Lanzarote is the five star Dream Hotel Gran Castillo in Playa Blanca. This hotel doesn’t come cheap although it‘s not as expensive as some, but it really is a dream hotel. Three exquisite restaurants, one of which features show cooking, exotic flora and fauna dotting the landscape, spas galore and seaside views with pretty pools - drooling yet?
Lanzarote is an island of great beauty and great excitement. Cheap deals on holidays to Lanzarote are common, but here at Sunmaster we want to get you the cheapest deal around because holidaying in Lanzarote will be an experience you’ll never forget.
