Cheap Holidays -> Resort Guides -> Greece -> Kefalonia
Kefalonia is the biggest Ionian island in western Greece. Like Greece, Kefalonia is an island of startling beauty and holidays to Kefalonia offer something for everyone. Holidays to Kefalonia, like holidays to Greece, can be relatively cheap so going won't break the bank! Devastated by the 1953 earthquake, Kefalonia is an island that is subject of a lot of legends and has a lot of history - holidays here aren't like anywhere else!
Kefalonia has some of the best beaches in Greece or anywhere for that matter and some of the best beach holidays! Myrtos beach is one of Greece's most photographed beaches as the white sands are encased by cliffs that contrast with turquoise sea - sheer beauty! Avithos beach is another favourite, a long swathe of golden sand that's virtually empty of people! Lassi is a resort that has a popular beach too - Lassi beach has cheap beach bars and cheap watersports on offer as well as gorgeous waters and sands! Like the beaches of Greece, Kefalonia beaches are becoming known for their golden sands and the almost tropical turquoise waters, some of the best in the world and great for watersports such as diving!
Aside from beaches, Kefalonia has a lot of breathtaking scenery such as mountains, flower-filled orchards, pine forests and olive and citrus groves. Mount Aenos is the highest mountain in Kefalonia standing at 1628m and containing a national park with plant species indigenous to Greece and Kefalonia. Holidays to Kefalonia can be all about appreciating and experiencing the natural beauty of the island!
Sightseeing is a cheap way to enjoy your holiday to Kefalonia - and a fun way to pass the time too! The Archaeological Museum is a must-see and the entry fee is quite cheap too! With Byzantine, Roman and Venetian ruins, churches and architecture all around Kefalonia, you won't run out of things to keep you busy! Melissani Lake and the caves of Kefalonia are worth visiting too - especially the 'Concert Cave' which is estimated to be around 150million years old and has a subterranean cave perfect for concerts!
Holidays to Kefalonia are a mix of quiet villages and resorts such as the peaceful and scenic Assos or livelier resorts such as the bustling Lassi. With luxury hotels - many of which reside in Lassi - shops that sell everything you could think of, low-key bars that play live Greek music or lively bars, discos and clubs like you can find in Lassi, Kefalonia has a little something to suit everybody's taste. The food is pure Greek and that alone is enough to ensure that you'll return time and again!
