Ancient Ialysos: The ancient site of Ialysos is less than 7km away from Ixia holidays, and it boasts some of the most interesting archaeological finds in the whole of Greece. The site actually features a variety of fascinating ruins well worth seeing on your holidays in Ixia. They include The Temple of Athena Polias (dating from the 3rd century BC), The Doric Fountain House (4th century BC) and a Byzantine monastery (from the 10th century). Indeed, there have been settlements at this site since prehistoric times and there is evidence of extensive building during the Minoan period (around 170BC) too.
Church of the Knights: Whilst this beautiful church is actually part of Ialysos, it deserves special mention for its serene setting. Built in the 14th century, the structures of the buildings and courtyards have a distinctly medieval style. Surrounded by cypress, olive and fir trees, the greenery in the area only adds to the tranquillity of this harmonic historic site.
Activities in Ixia
Water sports holidays: Ixia beach holidays are a haven for high-octane water sports, meaning you can have all manner of fun out to sea such as jet-skiing, parasailing and water-skiing. And of course, you can have a go on the good old banana boat or bouncing doughnuts too! Plus, windsurfing holidays are particularly popular along the coastline of Ixia, as the area enjoys rather strong breezes out to sea.
Beaches in Ixia
Ixia Beach: Rather more like a series of pleasant sand-and-shingle beaches but grouped under the name of Ixia Beach, the area is a top spot for windsurfing holidays thanks to the strong winds out to sea. There are actually two water sports centres here offering all range of activities from jet-skiing to kite surfing. However, the beaches here are just as accommodating if you wish to just sunbathe during your beach holidays in Ixia.
Ialyssos Beach: Following a similar trend to Ixia Beach, Ialyssos Beach consists of sand and shingle and is also pretty popular with windsurfing holidays. In fact, the Windsurfing Championships were actually held here in 2007. Being a few kilometres in length, you’ll also find the beach offers plenty of space for stretching out when you’re sunbathing during your holidays in Ixia.
Restaurants in Ixia
Le Gourmet: Despite the French name this homely restaurant specialises in traditional Greek cuisine. The Mezes in particular is recommended as you can choose a large variety of little samples of each dish on the menu.
Luna Cafe Bar: Doubling up as both a lively bar and an excellent restaurant, Luna offers a wide variety of meals on its menu. Children will find lots to love here, from the good old favourite cheese burger and chips, to tasty snacks like ham toasties. Prices are low too, making this restaurant a perfect choice for cheap holidays in Ixia.
Restaurant Olympias: The focus here is on quality Greek food, served simply and cooked to perfection. The beef stifado (thick Greek strew) and lamb kleftiko (slow-cooked lamb served with onions, lemon and herbs) and very highly rated. It’s a great place to just relax and enjoy some delicious home-cooked food on your holidays in Ixia.
Nightlife in Ixia
British bars and pubs: Many of the bars on Ixia holidays also double up as restaurants, with examples being the Luna Cafe Bar and Blue Palm. Many have Sky TV playing all the latest sporting action, as well as loud music systems and full disco lighting effects.
Lively holidays: Ixia holidays don’t only offer brilliant bars either, as there are quite a few clubs in the area, including the very popular FBI Club which plays chart hits until the early morning!
Shopping in Ixia
Souvenir shopping: The majority of shops on Ixia holidays are tourist-focused with beachwear, postcards and figurines being the main sorts of items on offer. However, there are a number of supermarkets which are very handy if you’re looking to pick up a low-priced lunch on cheap holidays in Ixia.
