Corfu is an island situated off the west coast of Greece in the Ionian Sea. Often referred to as the Emerald Isle, Corfu is a popular holiday destination. The lushness of the island is one of its best features and creates a wide diversity on the island. With country side, sea side and mountains, fishing villages and tourist resorts, Corfu is an island of diversity that is loved by many.
Corfu is an island that has a rich history and culture. Occupied by many, from the French to Romans, each has left a mark making the island an interesting place to holiday. Lots of legends surround Corfu such as Hercules and Jason and his Argonauts, to name the most well-known.
Corfu is famous for its cheap beach holidays. With mile after mile of coastline, Corfu has some absolutely gorgeous beaches and coves, from golden sand to smooth pebble. The beaches of Corfu are clean with shallow waters that are perfect for snorkelling and scuba diving. Corfu’s beaches offer a wide range of cheap water sports too and weather that is beyond compare!
Corfu has lots of museums, sports facilities, horse riding, shops, water parks and other cheap amusements. Aside from this however, Corfu is famed for its countryside, with miles of open plains, woods and groves full of fruit and olive trees. The fantastic Mount Pantokrator is a favourite as well and many paths lead up to the peak where you can see for miles and miles! Holidays to Corfu aren’t just about the beaches!
One place to visit in Corfu is Corfu Town. Corfu Town is composed of Corfu Old Town where you can wander the beautiful churches and quaint cafes and Corfu New Town where you can shop in trendy boutiques and eat in trendy restaurants! Corfu Town is one of the best places to visit in Corfu and bus trips there are often cheap and easy to arrange!
Another popular place in Corfu is Sidari. Sidari is known for its beautiful beaches but more so for its hectic nightlife! Sidari has a large number of clubs, bars and discos – if you go to Sidari, you can guarantee cheap beer, a good time and a late night! Aside from Sidari, Corfu has many low-key bars and tavernas and lively clubs. The restaurants of Corfu are fantastic too – serving almost any type of cuisine but mostly the delicious Greek food!
