The museum on the Great Tumulus has many beautiful historical artifacts on public display such as the golden crown with carved leaves that often has onlookers stunned. The museum is located on the old archeological site and shows the tombs the way they originally were, which adds to its attractiveness. The artifacts are well restored and are exhibited with enough information on display that gives visitors insights about the ancient civilization.

Scenic Meteora

Meteora is in the area of Thessaly, located in central Greece. It is a place that has a rich history and is known to be very religious. It is a mountainous area that is surrounded by magnificent rocks. With lush green hills and valleys, Meteora is a great holiday destination with some of the most enchanting views in the world.

What makes Meteora stand out is the huge monasteries constructed on top of rocks. The monasteries were built during the 14th and 15th century and have been well maintained by the monks. The monasteries house some of the world’s oldest Byzantine relics. Five monasteries are open to the public and you can visit them to experience what a secluded life would feel like.

Meteora has many beautiful Byzantine churches too that you can visit. Just like the monasteries, many of these churches have also been converted into museums. Some of these churches have splendid frescos that draw many visitors to them.

The churches and monasteries of Meteora leave a deep impact on any visitor and this experience should not be missed. The difficult journey to the top of the monasteries is rewarded by breathtaking views and you should have a camera handy to capture them.

Mykonos –Nature and Nightlife

Mykonos is a tourist heaven. This island is a part of the Cyclades, the ring of islands in Greece, and lies next to Tinos, Syros, Paros and Naxos. Mykonos is popular because of its exotic natural beauty and an active nightlife.

According to folklore, the island has derived its name from a local hero who is believed to be a descendant of the god Apollo and was thus considered sacred. Mykonos is thus steeped in ancient legend and the mystery of its surroundings engulfs you and promises to make your stay a memorable one.

Mykonos is also renowned for its fervent nightlife and this is evident by the innumerable bars and nightclubs that are scattered throughout the island. If you love nature, but also love your parties, then Mykonos is just the place for you. It attracts some of the most prominent DJs in the world to its clubs as well as its beach bars.

Mesmerizing Olympia

Olympia is the famous site where the Olympic Games were held by the Greeks every four years. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it draws visitors from all around the world.

The Archaeological Museum of Olympia is a must visit. The museum has a display of exhibits from the prehistoric era to the early Christian period. The museum also houses many priceless collections of art, among which the sculpture collection is a feast for the eyes. Situated on top of a plateau is a classical Greek temple that was devoted to Apollo and it is another place that will make your trip an unforgettable one.

Olympia has retained its significance through the ages. Even today, the flame of the modern Olympic Games is lit at the restored Olympic stadium. Many of the monuments of Olympia have also been used as motifs on coins.

The remains at the ancient Olympia still continue to mesmerize visitors. The archeological site lets you soak in all the grandeur of ancient Greece. The temple of Zeus was one of the most prominent monuments in Olympia, and even seeing its remains will give you an idea of the magnificence of ancient Greece.

Mythical Delos

Delos is a Greek island located at the centre of an island ring called the Cyclades. The island has mythical importance as it is considered the birthplace of the ancient Gods of Greece, Apollo and Artemis. Legend has it that these Gods were the twin sons of Zeus and were born on this island as their mother was banished from her own land. This tiny island is about 5 kilometers long and 1300 meters wide.

If you are in Mykonos then you must spend a day in Delos to learn more about the culture of the ancient Greeks. You can spend some time at the Agora of the Competaliasts. This is the market place that lies adjacent to a place called the Sacred Harbor. There are plenty of monuments in this area and most of them have been put there by merchants and captains of ships.

You can also see the Sanctuary of Apollo. In earlier times, it used to buzz activity. Today it is a major tourist attraction. There are three big temples as well as a host of other smaller temples, altars and monuments in Delos. Other important sites are the Temple of the Athenians, House of Naxians and the statue of Apollo.

Beautiful Aghia Paraskevi

A beautiful resort in the island of Skiathos, Aghia Paraskevi is known for its scenic locations with the beauty of the beaches. Aghia Paraskevi is just about 7 kilometers from the town of Skaithos and you can always take a taxi to this place if you want some nightlife. Aghia Paraskevi is a rather peaceful resort that hasn’t been exploited much by the huge crowds of tourists that flock other popular tourist destinations. Aghia Paraskevi is particularly noted for its clean beaches and it’s a really good experience to walk along the old and the new harbours.

The beach is a gem in this place and you are sure to be awestruck when you visit the place for the first time. The white sands of the beaches with the crystal clear water lapping up the shore are a beautiful sight and you can also walk for some distance into the sea and watch fishes swimming gracefully past your legs.

Lovely Potos

Lying to the South of the island of Thassos, Potos is a tranquil little village that is known for its beaches. Potos is ideally located between the resorts of Pefkari and Limenaria, Potos is a peaceful option when you look for some place other than these two resorts.  July and August is the most crowded time for this picturesque resort, so try to visit this lovely place when there aren’t must tourists.

The golden beaches here are the most popular tourist spots and the clear waters of the sea are ideal for snorkeling and other water sports. Watch the golden sun rising when you stand on the golden beach – sunrises are the best here, so is the majestic mountain of Athos. If you love walking, then you should take a walk along the winding streets of the village and check out the souvenir shops and the taverns here!

The beach of Koukounaries

Koukounaries is a place in the island of Skiathos, lying about 16 kilometers south of the town of Skiathos. Koukounaries which was earlier named Maratha takes its name from the abundance of pine trees here and the name Koukounaries translates to “pine cones”. Koukounaries became a popular tourist resort mainly due to the Koukounaries beach which is also called Chrisi Ammos (meaning Golden sands). The beach is known for the rather fine golden sand and its considered to be the best beach in the whole of the Aegean Sea.

Over the years, a number of Skiathos’s finest hotels have opened here and the beach and its surrounding areas have now become a popular tourist resort. The beach is flanked by the tall majestic umbrella pines, so you could take a walk along the beach or rest in the shades of the umbrella pines. Visit Koukounaries once and you’ll want to visit the place again!

Holidaying at Limneria

Limneria is a beautiful town just about 42 kilometers from the town of Thassos and is located on the South Western side of the island of Thassos. It lies facing the Mt.Athos and is the second largest town in the island of Thassos. With a number of traditional taverns and other swanky hotels and restaurants to choose from, Limneria is the ideal destination if you want to experience both the traditional Greek culture and the local culture in Thassos. Hundreds of tourists flock to this place every month and it’s considered to be a popular destination in Thassos.

Beaches are the most popular places in Limneria and the 2.5 kilometer stretching pebble and sand beach of Tripiti is the most popular one of them all. An ideal location for spending romantic evening and for enjoying the sunrises, the beach is where you’ll find most of the fun. Other places of interest include the folklore museum and the old mine which is sometimes open for public.
