If you’re a fan of Classical music then you’ll love the International Music Festival that takes place every year on the beautiful island of Santorini! Starting in September, the festival will showcase performances by some of the most talented musicians on the planet playing many incredible pieces by some of the worlds most influential composers including Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Debussy and Brahms. Taking place over two weeks (2nd September to the 16th September) there will be plenty of great performances throughout the six concerts for you to enjoy and once you have been to one performance and listened to the beautiful classical instrumentals and amazing vocals, you will no doubt want to book yourself in to see every following performance!
This years festival will be the 34th International Music Festival that Santorini has hosted and will be held within the Petros M. Nomikos Conference Centre, which makes the perfect venue for such a musical masterpiece and once you visit for yourself, you will understand why! The comfortable surroundings and beautiful landscape of the island will add to the relaxing atmosphere and when you get close by, you are sure to feel the buzz excitement in the air from the crowd and the musicians awaiting to perform.
The first concert of the festival opens on the 2nd of September and will feature Greek Bass Dimitris Kavrakos, who will be joined in the evening by the gifted soprano Katia Paschou and pianist Dimitirs Yakas, which will include the works of Gounod, Verdi and Rossini.
The second concert will take place on the 4th September and will feature Spanish pianist Claudio Martinez-Mehner along with his sister, the talented violinist Vera Martinez-Mehner. The performance will include the work of Debussy, Franck, Falla and Janacek.
The third concert on 7th September will include an interpretation of the Quintet with Guitar No.4 by Boccherini and the Paino Quintet by Schumann. These will be performed by the Vienna Strauss Company, guitarist Dionysis Anninos and pianist Athena Capodistria.
The fourth concert will be held on 9th September, which will feature the incredible European pianist Pascal Godart. Godart will include the Mephisto Walz by Liszt and his sonata as well as works by Chopin.
The fifth concert will be on the 11th September, will be the performance of two awe inspiring virtuosos of the bandoneon and the accordion, Peter Maric and Aleksander Nikolic, who will perform works of Vivaldi and bach as well as Gardel and Galiano.
The sixth and last concert will be on the 14th September and will feature the jazz pianist George Kontrafouris, who will be accompanied by Laurent Maur on harmonica, Bassist Costas Constantinou and Vassilis Podaras, a most excellent percussionist.
