Although the Lisbon coast may not be
as popular as the famous Algarve region, it still has much to offer and can entertain even the most fussy of individuals!
The two main resorts on the Lisbon Coast are Lisbon (Portugal’s Capital) and Estoril, which is a beautiful coastal town that sits directly on the western coastline. Lisbon, being the Capital of Portugal, has a lot of cultural offerings such as the Belem Cultural Centre, which offers many different areas for culture, education and art. It is the largest cultural centre in the whole of Portugal and the centre’s main attraction is it’s permanent art gallery, where you will be able to check out some incredible examples of modern art that we created by leading artists such as Picasso and Dali. Another fascinating cultural attraction is the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, which although is not that well known outside of Portugal it is most definitely worth a visit due to it’s incredible collection of both ancient and contemporary art. Here you will find works by some incredibly famous artists including Rembrandt, Monet and Turner. both of these fascinating places are a must-visit if you love high end artworks!
If you fancy seeing some historic architecture, Castle de Sao Jorge is a fine example of the countries vast History. The Moorish castle dates back to 1147 and sits prominently atop the highest of Lisbon’s seven hills, making it one of the most picturesque landmarks on the Lisbon landscape, a perfect example of where history, architecture and beauty meet.
When it comes to restaurants there are some amazing fine dining experiences to enjoy in Lisbon. The Bocca restaurant is modern and classy and serves fine foods in a simple style, so you can fit in a starter, main and desert without feeling uncomfortable! The Assinatura restaurant is another fine dining establishment and with it’s contemporary feel, you will feel as if you’re part of the ‘art scene’ even when dining out!
Although Lisbon itself is not the best location for beach holidays, there are some stunning beaches just a short journey away. Located 30km to the west of Lisbon is the coastal town of Estoril, which is perfect if you want to enjoy the culture of Lisbon holidays and still want a great beach holiday at the same time!
