Despite having a population of less than 10,000, the Spanish town of Trujillo is a world-class destination in Extremadura, Spain. It is located on a hill overlooking the areas between Tagus and Guadiana rivers in the province of Caceres and is also known for being the birth place of Francisco Pizarro, who conquered Peru.

The city is famous for its historical attractions and the most remarkable monuments are the church of San Francisco and Santa Maria in addition to the Old Arab fortress. However, it is advisable to begin your sightseeing trip from Plaza Mayor that has a grand statue of Pizarro in its centre. Several other tombs and cathedrals are also worth a visit.

Other great places to see in the city include the Bullring, Carmelita monastery and the costume museum. You can also find a number of good restaurants spread across the city with traditional as well as modern cuisines.

Trujillo has been very popular with photographers as well and the 15th and 16th century architecture of its monuments has always drawn admiration from visitors. It is also worth noting that the enchanting city of Trujillo was not always so popular and it was only after the discovery of America and the expansion of Spanish empire that Trujillo found a place on the tourist map.
