A holiday in Maleme

A lovely little town in the Greek island of Crete, Maleme is located about 16 kilometers from the city of Chania. Situated in the North-western part of Crete, Maleme comes under the Chania prefecture. Maleme is known to have some of the finest hotels and apartments in Crete and the beaches here are far more popular and less crowded than the beaches at Agia Marina and Platanias. Maleme has an ancient Minoan tomb and is also noted as one of the most important places in the Battle of Crete.
Though the region doesn’t have much places to see, the picturesque landscapes and the beaches are worth seeing. Visit the German War memorial where over 4500 soldiers who lost their lives in the Battle of Crete are buried. A number of festivals including one for St’Antonios is organized throughout the year. The beautiful village of Deres located 16 kilometers south of here is worth visiting for its landscapes.
