Spectacular Maheri

A tiny hamlet in the northern coast of the island of Crete is Maheri. It is about a ten minute drive from the small resort town of Kalives. Located n the foot hills of the rocky White mountains, Maheri is just the place for people who love the countryside. With the sea at a distance and the lovely unexploited countryside, Maheri is not the place is you’re looking for some sea and the beaches.

Maheri still remains to be influenced by the ancient Cretan culture and this is evident from the buildings and the people here. The Cretans have protected it for long from the outside world and hence it still remains this way. The village has been undergoing a large scale restoration of buildings and other architectural structures. The quaint little chapel of St’John on the western side of the village is an interesting place as it was constructed inside a large perpendicular rock. At Maheri, you will know what traditional Crete is all about. If you are looking for beaches on your trip to Maheri, then you should find many at about 20 minutes from here.
