Beach holidays: Two gloriously golden beaches, Alikes and Alikanas, join together on Alikanas holidays to form Alykon Bay. It’s a beautiful stretch of over 3km that’s kept wonderfully clean all the way through the summer holidays. The shallow, gentle waters here also make the beaches perfect for children on family holidays.
Peaceful holidays: Although Alikanas holidays are certainly growing in popularity; they’re still a great choice for those who like their holidays a little more laid-back. Alikanas holidays are relatively quiet compared to Laganas and Tsilivi, so if you like less crowded bars and beaches you’ll love it here!
Close to natural attractions: Being on the north east coast, Alikanas holidays are closer to natural attractions such as the Blue Caves and Smugglers’ Bay than almost all other holidays in Zante.
Activities in Alikanas
Smugglers’ Cove: Actually a sandy beach, we’d class this beautiful bay as more of an attraction during your Alikanas holidays as it’s the site of one of the most photographed spots for holidays in Greece. The main focal point is the wreck which has been docked since 1981, when smugglers trying to escape the authorities ran out of fuel along this cove. But Smugglers’ Cove is largely a major attraction on Alikanas holidays thanks to the beauty of the imposing chalky mountains, the pure white sands and intensely azure waters.
Blue Caves: The Blue Caves are on the northern coast of Zante, so you won’t have too far to travel if you’re having your holidays in Alikanas. You’ll see elegant arches carved into the white limestone caves from years of erosion by the crashing waves. The name for the Blue Caves comes from the stunning sparkling sapphire colour of the water in the deepest hollows of the caves.
Cape Skinari: On the very northern tip of Zante, Cape Skinari is in the same area as the Blue Caves. It offers dramatic viewpoints of both sides Zante holidays, highlighting in particular the contrast between the wild waves of the west and calmer water on the east. You’ll also get some great photos of the white cliffs which plunge drastically into the pure azure sea.
Beaches in Alikanas
Alikanas Beach: The long golden beach which adjoins Alikes is a real delight and a major attraction for choosing holidays in Alikanas. The coastline is kept scrupulously clean and the sand is exceptionally soft too. Additionally, Alikanas beach gently shelves into shallow waters, making it an ideal choice for children too.
Alikes Beach: The name ‘Alikes’ refers to the salt pans which surround the resort that lines the beach. However, you won’t find any salt lakes on this gloriously sunny stretch! It’s primarily soft golden sand, leading into calm warm waters that are excellent for bathing, making it a great spot for sunbathing during beach holidays in Alikanas.
Tsilivi Beach: It’s not surprising Tsilivi Beach is so popular, even during Alikanas holidays which are a few kilometres away, as the beach was awarded a Blue Flag for its cleanliness and safety, while it’s well supported with bars and restaurants all along the coastline. To the north of the beach you’ll also spot the old Venetian watchtower, also known as a vardiola.
Restaurants in Alikanas
The Cosy Corner: Incredibly popular with people on Alikanas holidays, this British style pub offers a real home-from-home experience. But a real highlight has to be the beer garden, which is a lovely leafy area where you can sit back with a drink and enjoy the warm sunshine of Zante.
Vsiraki: This authentic Greek restaurant offers a wide range of traditional favourites to try during your holidays in Alikanas. Look out for dishes such as moussaka, meze and lamb kleftiko. One extra thing of note is that everything is cooked in a charcoal oven; giving the meat a delicious stone baked flavour.
Dionisos: Another Greek tavern which is very popular on Alikanas holidays. The food has a firm focus on authentic Greek dishes such as lamb in rosemary. Everything is cooked from scratch, including their delicious homemade chips!
Nightlife in Alikanas
